Distinguished and Famous people from Franklin Harbour
🌾 Harry Schiller
Farmer and prospector Harry Schiller helped open a new chapter in the Cowell district’s mineral history when he found an unusually dense, hard rock in the 1960s. It was identified as nephrite jade, prompting geological investigations and later development of the deposits. The council’s history records the find as a local discovery with consequences well beyond a single specimen. Schiller’s association is practical prospecting in the Minbrie Ranges, where careful attention to an unfamiliar boulder revealed something of considerable geological and commercial interest.
